PANEL OF EXPERTS TO DISCUSS THE CHANGING NATURE OF LOCAL NEWS ON MAY 20 AT 4:00PM ET
New Jersey, May 6, 2024 – It is an undeniable reality that local news has changed dramatically in the last several decades, in everything from how journalists cover their communities to how many outlets are devoted to local coverage. How do these changes impact journalism, journalists, and communities at large?
These questions and more will be explored during a webinar titled “The Changing Nature of Local News” on Monday, May 20 at 4:00 p.m. ET. This free webinar is part of the Corporation for New Jersey Local Media’s Community Engagement Series, which promotes civic engagement by bringing together experts and journalists to discuss news of local interest and how it impacts our communities. Webinar panelists include:
– Charles Stile, legendary political columnist for the Bergen Record/NorthJersey.com and winner of CNJLM’s 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award in New Jersey Journalism;
– John Reitmeyer, budget and finance writer for NJ Spotlight News, and winner of a 2023 Statewide Impact in New Jersey Journalism award;
– Jessie Gomez, Newark public schools reporter for Chalkbeat and winner of the 2023 Local Impact in New Jersey Journalism award.
The panel will be moderated by Amanda Richardson, executive director of the Corporation for New Jersey Local Media.
