Pascrell Amendment Renames Landmark Legislation for Elijah Cummings

H.R. 3 bill to lower drug costs will now honor Cummings’s dedication to justice and equality for all Americans

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) today sponsored an amendment to H.R. 3 that renamed the landmark legislation the “Elijah E. Cummings Lower Drug Costs Now Act” in honor of the chairman of the House Oversight and Reform Committee who passed away suddenly on October 17.

“Last week, our country lost a giant in Chairman Elijah Cummings,” said Rep. Pascrell. “As Chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, Elijah’s first official Committee hearing this year was to launch a sweeping investigation into the high cost of prescription drugs in our nation. So it is all too fitting that we honor Elijah Cummings’ service to our country by approving legislation that will, at long last, lower prescription drug costs and save lives. We assign this honor with a heavy heart. But finally lowering drug prices for all Americans is a crisis Elijah dedicated his life to solving and one we will now help achieve with legislation in his name.”
