Pascrell Announces $1.1 Million in Emergency Housing Funds for North Jersey

Funding will provide needed relief for residents as many remain out of work

PATERSON, NJ – U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) announced today that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded $705,773 to the Paterson Housing Authority, $143,758 to the Garfield Housing Authority, and $250,546 to the Housing Authority of the City of Passaic. The funding was made available in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act which Pascrell supported in the House of Representatives last month.

“This pandemic has caused many undue hardships for our most vulnerable communities,” said Rep. Pascrell, one of Congress’s strongest advocate for federal housing assistance to lower-income communities. “These grants will provide crucial assistance to our underserved neighbors and ensure that our housing authorities have everything they need to weather this crisis. While these awards are significant for our state, they cannot be the last. I will keep pushing HUD and federal agencies to give more to our cities and towns as this pandemic continues.”

Even as he abides by social distancing guidelines, Rep. Pascrell has remained in constant contact with federal agencies to secure critical federal funding for New Jersey coronavirus response efforts. Last week, he announced $2.4 million in federal disaster funding for Bergen County. Earlier this month, he announced $63 million in federal funds for New Jersey’s child care services, $254,000 in emergency health funds for Paterson and St. Joseph’s Hospital, and $157,000 in coronavirus relief funding for Teterboro Airport. He also announced last month $14.6M in emergency housing and urban development grants for local governments to ensure that our underserved neighbors needs are met during the pandemic.
