Pascrell Assails Trump’s Treachery

Removal of national intelligence head endangers national security

PATERSON, NJ – U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) today reacted to reports that Donald Trump removed Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire after Maguire briefed members of Congress on Russia’s continued attacks on American elections.

“If these reports are accurate, we should be clear and direct with what they mean,” said Rep. Pascrell, a leading congressional critic of the Trump administration. “The sitting chief executive removed our nation’s head of intelligence coordination because the director tried to sound the alarm on Russia’s continued attacks on America. Fearing that warning could harm his re-election, Trump installed an utterly unqualified individual to that post upon which American security relies absolutely. Trump hugged the line of treasonous disdain for the national security of our country. Congressional Republicans’ collective cowardice has given Trump the green light to accelerate his treacheries, which will increasingly endanger American democracy and security.”
