Pascrell Blasts Trump’s Attack on U.S-South Korea Alliance

Latest diplomatic shakedown weakens critical relationship on Korean Peninsula

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) today hammered Donald Trump’s bellicose demand that South Korea pay the United States 400 percent more for the presence of United States military troops on the Korean Peninsula.

“Let’s make no bones about it: Trump is trying to shake down one of America’s most important partners,” said Rep. Pascrell, who maintains long-standing ties with New Jersey’s vibrant Korea-American communities. “On the Korean Peninsula stability is a top priority – and this outrageous move can only do the opposite. Trying to extract money from our allies like this seems almost designed to insult South Korean friends, further undermine American credibility across the globe, and boosts the standing of our enemies. These demands cannot and should not continue.”
