Pascrell Condemns Republican Removal of Cheney

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) today condemned the removal by the House Republican Caucus of Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY-AL) from a leadership post.

“Make no mistake about it: Rep. Cheney was fired for the crime of saying Donald Trump lost the election,” said Rep. Pascrell. “It has become disqualifying in the Republican Party to tell the truth. This purge is about something much bigger than one member of Congress. The Republican Party is hurtling towards fascism and authoritarianism. House Republicans took yet another vote in favor of the rioters who tried to decapitate Congress on January 6. With Republicans offering over 350 bills across the country to suppress voting and rig elections, we are witnessing a threat to U.S. democracy unmatched since 1860. Americans must know what is before us. Congress must enact H.R. 1 and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act this year before it is too late.

“It is all too fitting that the Republican caucus didn’t even have the guts to vote on the record. Unified by cowardice and illiberalism, the Republican Party is the Trump party.”
