Pascrell Condemns Trump Attempt to Snatch Health Care From Millions

Late-night petition to Supreme Court asks justice to invalidate entire Affordable Care Act amid global pandemic, growing depression

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) this morning lambasted a legal petition filed late last night by the Trump-Barr Justice Department asking the Supreme Court to invalidate the entire Affordable Care Act in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and a worsening economic depression.

“Yesterday the United States set a new record for COVID cases in a single day. Nearly 125,000 Americans are dead, and more are dying every day,” said Rep. Pascrell, who voted to enact the Affordable Care Act and is a longtime supporter of the landmark law and expanding it with a public option. “But despite all that, Donald Trump and Republicans are asking the Supreme Court to destroy the Affordable Care Act. I want to repeat that because it’s so unbelievable: Trump and Republicans are in court this minute trying to steal your health care in the middle of a raging global pandemic. Snatching your health care right now is one of the cruelest, most depraved, and frankly, stupidest things I’ve ever seen in my life.

“The House of Representatives is acting and specifically voting to protect Americans’ health care from this vicious scheme. Saving your health care is House Democrats’ absolute priority. Stealing your health care during a pandemic and depression is Republicans’ priority. The differences between the two parties could not be clearer.”

Next week, the House will vote on H.R. 1425, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Enhancement Act, legislation specially crafted to strengthen provisions of the Affordable Care Act against deliberate sabotage by Donald Trump and Republicans. The bill will expand affordable health care access and lower the cost of life saving prescription, among other proactive measures.
