Pascrell Praises New Social Security Head Martin O’Malley

Social Security needs champion as it remains in Republican crosshairs

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09), a longtime member of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Social Security, today praised the announcement by President Biden of Martin O’Malley to be the new head of the Social Security Administration (SSA).

“This high profile nomination to head the SSA shows that the White House understands the importance of this agency,” said Congressman Pascrell. “Martin O’Malley is a skilled leader, an energetic administrator, and an able political advocate of working Americans. He has his work cut out for him. Years of neglect and outright sabotage by Donald Trump’s appointees at SSA have badly weakened Social Security. As Republicans in Congress continue to mark Social Security for destruction, the agency demands a vigorous champion in the executive branch. I wish Mr. O’Malley well and we will work closely with him to keep America’s crown jewel program alive for the next century.”

Congressman Pascrell is one of Congress’s leading champions of Social Security. Pascrell is an original cosponsor of the just-reintroduced Social Security 2100 Act, watershed legislation that would provide a benefit bump for current and future beneficiaries and keep the system strong for generations to come.

Pascrell was the first member of Congress to call on President Biden to fire Donald Trump’s malicious SSA commissioner and deputy commission, calls Biden heeded in removing them soon thereafter.
