Pascrell Reacts to First Hearing of January 6 Commission

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) today reacted to the first day of hearings of the landmark January 6 commission.

“The testimony our nation saw today should shake each of us to our bones,” said Rep. Pascrell, the co-chairman of the Law Enforcement Caucus. “Watching these brave officers talk about their experiences I had tears on my cheeks. Like hundreds of officers who protected our Capitol on January 6, these officers have been brutally injured both physically and emotionally. They saved our lives that day and they saved American democracy. Every American must watch these hearings. The scars for our nation too run deep and can only heal, as Officer Aquilino Gonell said today, through ‘justice and accountability.’ I know Chairman Bennie Thompson will properly lead this commission to achieve those ends. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger put country over party and did outstanding today. To all my colleagues who refuse to recognize what happened on January 6, to the people who stand in the way of this inquiry I say this: If you have any decency left you need to look into the mirror and examine who you are.”

Rep. Pascrell has been outspoken in demanding accountability for the Capitol terror riot and Republican attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. On December 11, 2020, Pascrell urged House leadership to “refuse to seat in the 117th Congress any Members-elect seeking to make Donald Trump an unelected dictator.”
