Pascrell Reacts to Incomplete Mueller Report

PATERSON, NJ – Today, U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09), reacted to the release of a redacted version of the Mueller Report.

“Despite William Barr’s continued efforts to engage in a cover up, what we read today is one of the most tragic documents in the history of the American presidency. The censored report confirms what we already knew: that Donald Trump and his campaign maintained dangerous coordination with the Russian Federation to impact the 2016 election and that Trump likely committed obstruction of justice in his efforts to stop investigations into him, his family, and his associates. Robert Mueller and his team identified at least 10 potential instances in which Trump sought to obstruct justice. In concluding that he was unable to exonerate Trump, he pointedly leaves the grave matter in Congress’s hands. We must meet that challenge with all deliberate speed. Jerrold Nadler, Adam Schiff, Maxine Waters, and Elijah Cummings will decide what comes next in our congressional investigations into Trump’s corruption.  Every constitutional option should be on the table.

“Shakespeare observed that ‘[f]alse face must hide what the false heart doth know.’ Today, again, William Barr echoed MacBeth’s ignominious deceit. While an Attorney General’s first duty is to the rule of law, throughout his career, Barr has demonstrated that he sees his job first as a brooding bodyguard for the executive. A chief law enforcement officer loyal only to a ruler is authoritarianism.”
