Pascrell Statement on KORUS Announcement

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09), the Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Trade, reacted to modifications approved by the United States and South Korea to the United States–Korea Free Trade Agreement (KORUS).

“I support Ambassador Lighthizer’s effort to renegotiate the KORUS Agreement to help achieve a better deal for U.S. businesses and workers.  Signing changes to KORUS is certainly preferable to Donald Trump’s threats to terminate it.  However, the deal that Trump signed today did not go far enough to address my longstanding concerns with the Agreement, including negotiating meaningful commitments on currency and strengthening the rules of origin for automobiles. I look forward to being consulted by the administration on next steps.”
