Pascrell Statement on the Trump Administration Decision to Tear Up the Iran Nuclear Deal
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) issued the following statement in response to Donald Trump’s announcement that he would withdraw the United States from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
“Donald Trump has made our nation and the world less safe.
“The JCPOA is an imperfect solution, but it remains the only concrete plan to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. This remains the most important goal. There is no evidence that Iran is in violation of the JCPOA. In fact, the agreement has succeeded by pushing the break-out time for Iran to develop a nuclear bomb from three months to over a decade.
“The impact of this decision is potentially calamitous. This rash act will further erode America’s diplomatic credibility, empower extremists in Iran and elsewhere, and ratchet up tensions in the Mideast. The President must now detail his own roadmap to preventing a nuclear Iran.”
