Pascrell Supports Border Supplemental

Bill provides funding for humane treatment

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) today voted in favor of legislation that will provide $4.5 billion in emergency spending to help secure the southern border and provide humanitarian assistance to detained individuals there. The border supplemental bill includes support for food, water, blankets, medical care, legal aid, and support services for unaccompanied children and refugees, while pointedly not funding the Trump administration’s vicious mass detention policies.

“Donald Trump’s mass deportation policies are a failure and have done nothing to make America safer. Children have died, families have been destroyed. This unspeakable viciousness has been unleashed on some of the most vulnerable peoples on this earth. There can be no doubt anymore that this administration’s policies are not in furtherance of security. Cruelty itself is the point. As people suffer in abominable conditions, this legislation will alleviate some of their suffering. None of these resources will further the lethal policies of this administration.

“Not long from now future generations and their historians will look at what has happened at the border. They will judge harshly not just Donald Trump and his willing adjutants, but any failure to speak out against their actions which continue to stain America irreparably.”
