Pascrell Supports Continuing Resolution Repeal of Highway Fund Cuts

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) commended the passage of a continuing resolution to keep the federal government open until December 20. The funding, approved 231-to-192 by the House of Representatives, includes several positive provisions, including a repeal of $7.6 billion in recissions to the last highway bill that would have cost New Jersey approximately $411.69 million.

“It is good news that these cuts to the national highway program will not see the light of day. Needed investments in new roads and bridges, as well as engineering and construction jobs, were at risk from coast to coast, especially here in New Jersey,” said Rep. Pascrell. “It is a continuing dereliction that Congress must continually pass short-term funding packages because Republicans refuse to abandon government by chaos. I won’t stop demanding that government function more orderly and smoothly. But the fix in this legislation is a positive for our state and the President should sign it post haste.”

The repeal of the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act cuts comes days after a letter Rep. Pascrell helped lead called on House leaders of both parties to remove the enormous burden recission cuts would have on states including New Jersey.
