Pascrell Votes to End Robocall Harassment

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) today voted in favor of S.151, the bipartisan TRACED Act, which passed the House of Representatives 417-to-3. The legislation will outlaw numerous prevalent practices by robocallers and establish new government powers to go after fraudsters.

“With this legislation, we can continue our campaign to end the incessant harassment of robocalls and prove that government can have a positive impact in peoples’ daily lives,” said Rep. Pascrell, a co-sponsor of the Stopping Bad Robocalls Act which passed the House in July. “It should go without saying that the American people are entitled to live and work in peace without the constant badgering of phone scammers. I want to thank Chairman Frank Pallone for leading this effort in the Energy and Commerce Committee.”

In 2018, 48 billion robocalls besieged Americans’ phones morning, day, and night. In response, Rep. Pascrell and his colleagues passed the bipartisan Stopping Bad Robocalls Act (H.R. 3375), which would give phone carriers 18 months to establish rules to fight the call spoofing many robocallers use to flood Americans’ phones. With today’s passage of S.151, the House of Representatives has now approved two individual anti-robocall bills since Democrats won back the House in November, continuing the impressive productivity of the 116th Congress.
