Pascrell Votes to Remove Antisemitic and Islamophobic Congresswoman from Committee Assignments

Supports further action to have her removed from Congress

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) voted with a bipartisan group of colleagues to boot antisemitic and Islamophobic conspiracy theorist and Republican Member of Congress Marjorie Taylor Greene from her congressional committee assignments. Before and during her time in Congress, Greene has embraced antisemitic and violent “qanon” conspiracy theories, questioned whether 9/11 was an inside job, and suggested that Jews started the recent California wild fires. Additionally Greene has claimed that President Barack Obama is a “secret Muslim”, she harassed survivors of the Parkland school shooting and suggested the school attack was a “false flag” perpetrated by actors, and encouraged the execution of prominent Democrats.

The House of Representatives swiftly passed H. Res. 72 to remove this individual from congressional committees after Republican leadership refused to hold her accountable. Of the 211 House Republicans, 200 voted to support Ms. Greene and allow her to serve on congressional committees and face no other sanction. This vote took place one day after more House Republicans voted against a member of their leadership for putting country over party.

“Last night every House Democrat voted to kick a raging antisemite and Islamophobe who perpetuates violent conspiracies theories off House committees. Next we need to kick her out of Congress,” said Rep. Pascrell. “Evidently the vast majority of House Republicans are happy to share power with such bigotry. I am not. My Democratic colleagues are not. And if given the chance I will vote to remove this person from the House of Representatives once and for all. This vile hate that judges people based on their religious beliefs has no place in the People’s House.”

Rep. Pascrell has been a consistent opponent of Antisemitism and has been the foremost advocate in Congress for greater scrutiny of right-wing and other domestic extremist groups who often place Jews at the center of their deranged conspiracy theories. Pascrell has also been a longtime champion of increased funding for the NSGP, which protects synagogues and houses of worship from attacks.
