PBA: SURRENCY’S COVID REFORMS AIM TO PROTECT OFFICERS, FAMILIES

 Says County Chair is Out-of-Line
(BRIDGETON, NJ) – PBA Local 231 President Victor Bermudez today released the following statement in response to comments made by Cumberland County Democratic Chairman Steven Erickson on COVID jail reforms:

“Freeholder Surrency’s proposals are aimed at helping officers and protecting their families during a pandemic.  He’s the only freeholder that reached out to us, listened to our concerns, and advanced those concerns in the form of proposals.

“Steven Erickson’s comments are out-of-touch, out-of-line, and have nothing to do with helping the 132 officers that report to work every month.

“When people’s lives are on the line, you act, you lead, you deliver – but you don’t grab your calculator.

“As sworn corrections police officers, we took an oath to protect the public, including exposure to the pandemic.

“PPE, testing, AG guideline compliance, and hazard pay for officers is what’s needed, and it’s focused on providing critical assistance during a pandemic. Period.”
