Peters, Stanfield announce ‘District Days of Service’

LUMBERTON – Assemblyman Ryan Peters and Assemblywoman Jean Stanfield announced that their joint 8th Legislative District office will volunteer one day each month throughout the communities they represent as part of a new “District Days of Service” endeavor.

The 8th District legislators and their staff will seek volunteers to help nonprofits, charities and schools with various service projects with the goal of supporting and connecting with those in need of help.

“Volunteering time to local organizations is important to the overall well-being of any collaborative community,” Peters said. “Our legislative office is excited to be on the front lines helping worthy establishments within the district anyway that we can.”

Providence House

The first District Days of Service project will held on Thursday, Feb. 20 and benefit Providence House, a Catholic Charities service that seeks to end the cycle of domestic abuse through education, empowerment and advocacy while providing a safe haven from abuse.

“Domestic violence affects nearly 1 in 4 women at some point in their lifetime,” Stanfield said. “It is our civic duty to help support organizations like Providence House that provide safe housing, crisis hotlines, counseling and support groups to the families affected.”

The legislative team will be adopting two rooms to paint, clean, stock and generally refurbish. They are asking for supply donations leading up to Feb. 20 in order to complete the mission. Supplies include paper towels, laundry detergent pods, and disinfecting wipes. For the full list of donations requested, please visit www.ryanepeters.com/providence-house or contact the office at (609) 667-7360.

Disclaimer: Volunteers will not be permitted to the first day of service due to the sensitive nature of the mission of Providence House. To volunteer for future days of service, please email 8th Legislative District Chief of Staff Brian Woods at bwoods@njleg.org and you will be added to the volunteer list to be made aware of future events.
