Peterson Slams Murphy for Harboring Illegal Immigrant

2/3/2025

TRENTON, N.J. – Assemblyman Erik Peterson is calling out Gov. Phil Murphy for openly admitting he is sheltering an illegal migrant while daring federal agents to stop him.

“The governor thinks he’s above the law,” Peterson said. “Instead of enforcing our duly enacted laws, he’s breaking them and telling others to do the same. It’s outrageous.”

At a Saturday event at Montclair State University, Murphy admitted he and the first lady are housing an illegal migrant in a room above their garage and dared immigration agents to act.

“Good luck to the feds coming in to try and get her,” Murphy said.

Peterson said that if ICE doesn’t act, authorities should at least check on the woman’s safety.

“Murphy let women on his own soccer team suffer in terrible conditions. Now he wants us to believe he’s suddenly acting out of kindness?” Peterson said. “It’s about power, political theater, and maybe cheap labor to clean his mansion.”

In 2018, players from Sky Blue FC, the women’s soccer team owned by Murphy and his wife, reported awful living conditions, with plastic bag for windows, no showers and ice baths in trashcans. A 2022 investigation exposed widespread harassment and abuse, ignored by officials for years.

Under federal law, knowingly harboring an undocumented immigrant is a crime, with penalties ranging from fines to prison time. Murphy has already banned New Jersey law enforcement from helping federal law enforcement.

“If Murphy wants to be a social justice warrior so badly, he should resign instead of making a mockery of his oath of office to uphold the law,” concluded Peterson.
