Pinelands Preservation Alliance to Exhibit Sensory Garden
at 2022 Philadelphia Flower Show

Event Sponsored by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society

SOUTHAMPTON, NJ – Pinelands Preservation Alliance (PPA) is the leading voice for protecting the natural and historic resources of the New Jersey Pinelands. These resources include 800,000 acres of forest in one of the world’s most densely developed regions, the Kirkwood-Cohansey aquifer that remains one of North America’s largest and healthiest aquifers, rare plants, and animals under siege in other parts of their natural habitat, and a fascinating history embodied in the Pinelands’ ghost towns, historic villages, farms, and people.

The Pinelands Preservation Alliance has been invited to exhibit at the Philadelphia Flower Show for the second year in a row. PPA is proud to present a sensory garden “Crackle, Crinkle, Chirp, Croak, Croon” which tells the story of the Pinelands from seed to abundant life. Listen to the fire that opens pinecones in order to release their seeds which then gives birth to the full bloom of hundreds of native plant species. Listen to the ripples in the waterways, the wildlife that dwells, and the whisper of the wind brushing the sand of the Pinelands.

The Flower Show will bloom bigger and brighter than ever before with exciting new exhibits, special events and activities, recreational spaces including the Kids Cocoon & Play Space, and several dining options. “In Full Bloom” will take place in South Philadelphia’s Franklin Delano Roosevelt Park (FDR Park) from Saturday, June 11 through Sunday, June 19, 2022. A variety of ticket options are available for guests, along with several returning and new events that will appeal to both seasoned fans of the Show and new audiences. FDR Park is located at 1500 Pattison Ave & South Broad Street.

Visitors have the opportunity to experience the beautiful vistas and rolling landscape of FDR Park, a registered historical district. Designed by the Olmsted Brothers – sons of Frederick Law Olmsted, the designer of New York City’s famed Central Park – the park was the host location for the 1926 Sesquicentennial Expo of the United States. FDR Park is an inspiring venue that contributes to the splendor that the Flower Show is known for, while also being easily accessible by public transportation and car.

Patricia Butenis, PPA’s Board President, said, “The Pinelands Preservation Alliance is honored and thrilled to participate in this year’s PHS Philadelphia Flower Show. We hope our exhibit allows people to experience the special sounds, smells and sensations of the New Jersey Pinelands.”

The Pinelands Preservation Alliance (PPA) was established as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization in 1989 by environmental leaders and Pinelands residents, with the goal of preserving and protecting the more than 1 million acres of the New Jersey Pinelands. PPA remains the only private organization dedicated solely to environmental protection throughout the Pinelands. The Alliance also has two initiatives: Pinelands Adventures, an outdoor recreation program aimed at fostering public understanding of and devotion to the Pinelands and Rancocas Creek Farm, a sustainable, chemical-free farm connected to our mission to protect the Pinelands.
