Pinkin, Reynolds-Jackson Measure Commemorating 100th Anniversary of the Ratification of the 19th Amendment Passes Assembly
(TRENTON) – A concurrent resolution to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment and authorize the Secretary of State to establish goals and implement programs to inspire every women residing in the State to register and exercise their right to vote was approved Monday, 79-0, by the full Assembly.
Assemblywomen Nancy Pinkin and Verlina Reynolds-Jackson, sponsors of the measure (ACR-127), issued the following statement:
“Alice Paul dedicated her life to the single cause of securing equal rights for all women. She was one of the most influential suffragists, forming the National Woman’s Party. The purpose-driven acts of defiance and political engagement of these women made possible the signing of the 19th Amendment. Today we salute the bravery and vision of the suffragists.
“The fight for a woman’s right to vote spanned decades and the relentlessness of suffragists prevailed, giving us one of the most influential moments in our history. 126 women serve in the U.S. Congress; 25 women in the Senate and 101 women in the House currently. We would not be here if it were not for the vision and organization of the suffragists. On this 100th year anniversary of the women’s vote, we renew our efforts to ensure more women are engaging the political process and exercising their right to vote.”
