Statement on State Board of Medical Examiners Vote to Repeal Medically Unnecessary Restrictions

TRENTON, N.J. – In response to a vote on Wednesday, September 9, by the Board of Medical Examiners (BME) to begin the process of repealing medically unnecessary and outdated restrictions on abortion provision in New Jersey, Planned Parenthood Action Fund of New Jersey commended the BME and issued the following statement.

Statement from Kaitlyn Wojtowicz, Vice President of Public Affairs, Planned Parenthood Action Fund of New Jersey

“At Planned Parenthood, the health and wellbeing of patients is our top priority. We are committed to providing safe, affordable, and timely reproductive health care to all New Jerseyans when and where they need it.

“We applaud the State Board of Medical Examiners for taking this first step to increase access to high-quality, essential reproductive health care services in New Jersey.  By removing these medically unnecessary regulations, our state will continue to be a leader when it comes to reproductive health care. The removal of these restrictions will help to increase access to abortion, and remove barriers that result in delays to care.

“These medically unnecessary regulations create obstacles for physicians and other qualified clinicians from providing care, and prove a significant barrier for patients that have made the decision to end a pregnancy.

“In New Jersey, everyone should be able to receive the care they need and plan their families, without barriers, fear, or interference from others. This first step by the Board of Medical Examiners will continue to move our state in this direction.”
