Planned Parenthood Action Fund of NJ Applauds AG Grewal’s Actions Against Trump-Pence Administration’s Birth Control Rules
TRENTON, NJ – New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal announced a partnership with the state of Pennsylvania and its Attorney General Josh Shapiro to protect access to reproductive health care services. The Attorneys General plan to sue the Trump-Pence administration over recent attacks on birth control access.
Statement from Triste Brooks, Planned Parenthood Action Fund of New Jersey:
“Birth control isn’t controversial – it’s essential health care than a majority of women will use in their lifetime. We applaud Attorney General Grewal for standing up for the thousands of women in our state who rely on birth control to stay healthy, plan their families, lead their lives and follow their dreams.
“In November, women resoundingly rejected the Trump-Pence agenda. The administration’s attacks on birth control coverage are dangerous, and not what the vast majority of American people want. Planned Parenthood supporters will continue to fight back against these attacks and make their voices heard.”
The rules that Attorneys General Grewal and Shapiro are targeting would make several grave changes to a woman’s ability to access birth control. These rules would allow virtually any employer to deny birth control insurance coverage to their employees, or any university to deny students or staff such coverage based on religious or moral objection.  The rules would also allow issuers to opt-out of providing group or individual coverage for birth control on the basis of any religious or moral objection.
Planned Parenthood Action Fund of New Jersey thanks Governor Phil Murphy and his administration, including Attorney General Grewal, Health Commissioner Dr. Shereef Elnahal, Department of Human Services Commissioner Carole Johnson, and the New Jersey State Legislature for being leaders in support of reproductive health care access.
