National Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month is a good time for parents and teens to talk about sexual health
Planned Parenthood empowers New Jersey teens to make informed, healthy decisions
TRENTON, NJ – May is National Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month. Planned Parenthood of Northern, Central, and Southern New Jersey (PPNCSNJ) is encouraging teens to make healthy decisions and have honest conversations about reproductive health care.
Triste Brooks, President and CEO of PPNCSNJ, released the following statement:
“Planned Parenthood is committed to helping teens stay safe and healthy. We are proud to provide sex education and health services that help teens plan their future and prevent both unintended pregnancies and STDs.
“All young people deserve the sex education and health care they need to stay healthy, as well as support from their families, schools, and communities to set goals for their future. When teens and parents feel comfortable talking to each other about sex and relationships, young people are much more likely to make informed and empowered choices about sexual health. National Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month is an opportunity for families to start having conversations about consent, birth control and protection against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
“Planned Parenthood offers resources for parents, including fact sheets, interactive mobile tools and conversation guides. We also offer resources for teens, including a variety of digital education tools and apps geared towards different age groups.
“Unintended teen pregnancy rates in the United States have reached a historic low, and more young people are delaying sexual activity and using birth control when they do have sex. High-quality sex education and access to family planning services like those offered by Planned Parenthood have been critical to helping teens stay safe and healthy.”
