Pou, Members of the Latino Caucus Applaud Matos Appointment

Trenton– Senator Nellie Pou, Chair of New Jersey’s Legislative Latino Caucus, issued the following statement on behalf of members of the caucus in support of the appointment of Laura Matos to the New Jersey Appointment Commission by Democratic State Chair Leroy Jones, Jr.:

“Members of the Latino Caucus have long called for a Latina to be appointed to the redistricting commission, and have championed the need for greater diversity on the commission overall so that it better reflects the diversity of our state.

“We applaud the selection of Laura Matos, and know that she will serve in her new role with distinction and commitment to the ideals of our state and with fairness to this important process.

“Unfortunately, we realize that her appointment affects another member of the commission, our colleague and former Senate President, who has served our state and the legislature so ably for many years.”
