Pro-Choice PAC Pam’s List Endorses Laura Fortgang for NJ State Assembly

LD 26 Democrat Says States Must Protect Women’s Health From Trump Title X Attack

VERONA, NJ (Aug. 16, 2019)—Laura Fortgang, the Democratic candidate for New Jersey State Assembly in the 26th Legislative District, has earned the endorsement of Pam’s List, a New Jersey political action committee that works to elect pro-choice Democratic women candidates to the state legislature.

“At this very frightening time when American women are facing a sustained attack against their right to control their own bodies and their access to reproductive health care at the federal level, it is critical that New Jersey is making every effort to protect the health of women,” Fortgang said. “The work that Pam’s List does in helping pro-choice women candidates win elections is crucial to this effort. “I am very proud and honored to be included among the outstanding women candidates and legislators they have endorsed,” Fortgang said.

“As we head into the November elections, Donald Trump’s so-called ‘gag’ rule has banned women’s health care providers from even discussing abortion with their patients if they want to continue receiving Title X federal funding that provides affordable birth control, breast cancer screenings, and STD testing for low income women,” Fortgang said. “Title X funding does not fund abortions but has provided urgently needed health care for women for more than fifty years. Now, providers who continue to provide safe and legal abortions must forego the funding that supports affordable women’s health care. Planned Parenthood was forced to give up its Title X funding in order to continue to provide women with the right to choose. This is why who represents us in our state legislature is so important. New Jersey must make sure we remain a safe place for women’s health,” Fortgang said.
