Project Ready Celebrates Grand Opening of Community Engagement Center with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

 

Event connected families, businesses and local organizations to highlight new space for community education in Newark

 

 

 

Newark, New Jersey — Project Ready, a Newark-based non-profit grassroots advocacy organization dedicated to empowerment through civic engagement, held the grand opening of its Community Engagement Center on Saturday, September 14. The community event featured  family-friendly activities, workshops, and local vendors.

 

“The Project Ready Community Engagement Center is a labor of love and our organization’s way to give residents and businesses a space to learn, share ideas, and seize opportunity to connect and communicate with the City of Newark,” said Shennell McCloud, CEO, Project Ready. “I am proud of the Project Ready team, all who made opening the Center possible, and most of all, the community who keeps us true to our mission to highlight, uplift, and restore the narratives of Black and Brown voices.”

 

 

 

Attendees received free backpacks that included books and school supplies, along with free ice cream and meal tickets. The event also featured a Mad Science Workshop for elementary and middle school aged children, face painting, and a reading hour. Food trucks and local vendors were on-site where attendees were able to support community businesses and learn more about Newark-based organizations.
