Ramos Rakes in $75K Just Two Months After Election Win
A little more than two months after an election in which he won more than 80 percent of the vote, Newark North Ward Councilman held his first fundraiser for 2022, raising more than $75,000.
The fundraiser, hosted by Scarinci Hollenbeck’s Ramon River and Mercury’s Mo Butler, drew more than 250 supporters Thursday to The Park Savoy Estate in Florham Park. The fundraiser also doubled as a birthday celebration for Ramos, who turned 43 on July 1.
Among those in attendance were Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo and Essex County Sheriff Armando Fontoura, state Sen. M. Teresa Ruiz, Newark Council Vice President Luis A. Quintana, Councilman at Large Carlos M. Gonzalez and newly minted Belleville Mayor Michael Melham.
Ramos easily cruised to victory in the May municipal election, garnering 80.1 percent of the vote against three other candidates, the widest margin of victory of any candidate running in the non-partisan election.
Ramos ran for his four term on a ticket aligned with Mayor Ras Baraka, who also handily defeated challenger Gayle Chaneyfield Jenkins, the Central Ward Councilwoman.
With a sizable war chest and an experienced campaign team lead by North Ward Chair Samuel Gonzalez, Ramos played a role in helping LaMonica McIver win the Central Ward seat in the June runoff and well as East Ward Councilman Augusto Amador, who faced former Police Chief Anthony Campos in the runoff.
“All of our supporters believe in the potential of Newark and they feel right team is in place to make that potential a reality,” Ramos said. “The City Council is working as a team to continue moving the city forward.”
