Rebecca Symes Files 354 Nominating Petitions, First Ward E Candidate to Reach Requirement

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Ward E Council candidate Rebecca Symes became the first candidate to file nominating petitions with the City Clerk today, dropping 354 signed petitions only three weeks after she began her campaign. Symes will continue circulating petitions and expects to file significantly more between now and the September 5th deadline, proving the organizational strength of her campaign. Candidates are required to file a total of 263 valid petitions in order to be placed on the ballot for the November election.

“Ever since this campaign began a few weeks ago, the outpouring of support I have received from across this community has been truly overwhelming,” said Symes, who began her campaign in June after incumbent Ward E Councilwoman Candice Osborne announced that she will not seek re-election. “That support is reflected in the petitions we filed today, but also in the many Downtown neighbors who attended our kickoff event or have signed up to volunteer their time to help. I am grateful that so many residents share my vision for continuing to make Jersey City a national model for government innovation and progressive policies in action on the local level, while preserving what makes our community so special.”
