Red Bank Closes Streets, Launches Downtown Pedestrian Plaza to Reinvigorate Small Businesses
Last night was the first day of the newly created pedestrian plaza for outdoor dining and retail by the Red Bank Mayor & Council. Broad Street in the heart of Red Bank’s downtown will be blocked off from Thursday night through Saturday night, while Monmouth street will be closed off for Sunday. The plan is to keep the pedestrian plaza going every weekend if possible until the weather gets cold into the Fall season.
“With over 250 small businesses in town looking to bounce back from the COVID pandemic, we explored different ways to create excitement and show people that Red Bank is once again open for business,” said Councilman Hazim Yassin “The feedback I’ve received from business owners has been overwhelmingly positive, and I could not be prouder of our borough employees who have made this such a success.”
Governor Phil Murphy also made an appearance, stopping by for dinner.
While this was created in response to the reopening of the state, Red Bank hopes to make this a long term venture moving forward. Last month Councilman Yassin held a meeting with Senate President Steve Sweeney and local businesses to discuss the state’s reopening efforts and ways for local municipalities to support business relief.
