RELEASE: Gottheimer Statement on the Passing of Lt. Governor Sheila Oliver

NORTH JERSEY — Today, August 1, 2023, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) released the following statement:

“Jersey lost a trailblazer today. Lt. Governor Sheila Oliver was a fighter for the voiceless. She was the first woman of color elected to statewide office in New Jersey and the first Black woman to serve as New Jersey’s Speaker of the Assembly.

My thoughts are with her family. May her memory be a blessing.”
