RELEASE – Senate Candidate Schirmer Calls on Dems to Stand up for NJ in Face of Govt. Shutdown
Hamilton, NJ – LD 14 Senate Candidate Ileana Schirmer (R) is calling on State legislators to stand up and fight for New Jersey taxpayers in the face of a government shutdown.
“A government shutdown will have a massive effect on our taxpayers. The courts will have to cut back on hearings. How many domestic violence survivors won’t be able to get the restraining order they need to stay alive? Beaches and state parks will have to close for Fourth of July weekend. How much will that cost us in lost tourism revenue? There is no time to play politics. We need a state budget now,” Schirmer said.
“My opponent, Linda Greenstein is a member of the Senate Budget Committee, but she was consistently absent, allowing Senate President Sweeny to take her place and cut heartless backroom deals with Governor Christie. She wasn’t even there on Monday when the committee voted to pass the State budget.
Linda had plenty of opportunities to raise her voice but she chose to stay silent and take the easy way out – as she always has. She consistently shows zero leadership and a lack of courage to take a stand.
If Linda really cares about the families she claims to represent, she should stand up to the bullies in the Statehouse and do what is right for our taxpayers. That’s what good public servants do and that is exactly what I will do if I am elected in November.”
Schirmer has also publicly spoken out against the Horizon bill, which would risk the health and security of the millions of New Jerseyans who rely on the State’s largest insurer. Read that here.
