Rep. Payne, Jr. Announces more than $15M in HUD Grants for District

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. is proud to announce today that cities and counties in New Jersey’s Tenth Congressional District would receive more than $15 million in Emergency Solutions Grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).  The grants started as a way to help Americans in homeless shelters, but they have been modified to assist all Americans who have lost permanent housing or become homeless.  The grants were issued to Newark ($5,458,961), Jersey City ($3,540,297), Essex County ($2,974,183), Hudson County ($1,486,554), and Union County ($1,990,737).

“We need this money in the district to help Americans who have lost, and could lose, housing due to the coronavirus economic crisis,” said Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr.  “Americans have enough concerns right now.  They don’t need to worry about losing their home as well.  I am grateful to the department for helping us during this global pandemic.”
