Rep. Payne, Jr. Announces New Jersey Childcare Funding from American Rescue Plan

Washington, D.C. — Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr. announces that New Jersey will receive almost $700 million from President Biden’s American Rescue Plan to help childcare facilities reopen, keep workers on the payroll, and assist working families.

“I know New Jersey families have been struggling to handle both work and childcare duties during this pandemic,” said Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr.  “I fought to get this funding for childcare providers because they support working parents and help our economy.”

Rep. Payne, Jr. helped New Jersey get the funding through two programs created through the American Rescue Plan:

  • $428 million from the childcare stabilization fund to help childcare providers reopen or stay open, provide safe and healthy learning environments, keep workers on payroll, and provide mental health support for educators and children.

  • $267 million in more flexible funding for New Jersey to make childcare more affordable for families, increase access to high-quality care for families receiving subsidies, increase compensation for early childhood workers, and meet other care needs in the state.

The funding goes to the state, which will allocate it to specific providers and families.
