Rep. Payne, Jr.’s Statement on the Passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. released the following statement regarding the passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died September 18, 2020.  Justice Ginsburg was a strong defender of gender equity and justice in her 27 years as a Supreme Court Justice.

“The unfortunate passing of Justice Ginsburg is a tragic and devastating loss for our entire country,” said Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr.  “Justice Ginsburg was one of the most respected justices ever to sit on the Supreme Court.  She dedicated her life to achieving equality for all Americans under the law.  Long before her tenure on the nation’s highest court, she fought to make sure the Equal Protections Clause in the Constitution applied to women and co-founded the Women’s Rights Project at the American Civil Liberties Union.  She left a lasting mark on our country and I think it would be disrespectful to her legacy to appoint a successor until after the election.”
