Rep. Payne, Jr. Votes to Support Americans during Coronavirus Crisis 

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. voted for the Families First Coronavirus Response Act early this morning to help Americans handle the economic effects of the coronavirus.  The bill would provide billions in financial assistance to all 50 states, including $810 million in additional Medicaid funding to New Jersey.

Rep. Payne, Jr. said the country needed the funding to help support Americans who are suffering from the global pandemic.

“We need to help Americans because this is an economic crisis as well as a national health crisis,” said Congressman Payne, Jr.  “As the disease affects more of our citizens, people are losing their jobs and having trouble paying bills.  It will become worse if we fail to act.  I am proud of my House colleagues for showing true bipartisan leadership and working through the night to pass this bill this morning.  It is good for America and New Jersey.”

The House bill (H.R. 6201) would provide free coronavirus testing for all Americans who need it; strengthen food assistance for those in need; establish paid emergency leave with 14 days of paid sick leave; and provide more federal funds for Medicaid to help states deal with the crisis.
