Rep. Sherrill Applauds Senate Passage of the Great American Outdoors Act
Washington, DC — Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) applauded the United States Senate today for passing the landmark Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA), 73-25. The bipartisan legislation will permanently fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and address the nearly $12 billion maintenance backlog in our national parks and other land management agencies.
“Each generation is trusted with protecting our open spaces and natural resources to pass them on to future Americans to enjoy,” said Representative Sherrill. “The Great American Outdoors Act is a significant opportunity to invest in our public lands, including treasures in the 11th District like the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge and Morristown National Historical Park. I applaud the Senate for coming together to pass this important legislation, and look forward to taking it up in the House and sending it to the president’s desk.”
Representative Sherrill led the House introduction of the GAOA alongside author Representative Joe Cunningham (D-SC) and Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), Mike Simpson (R-ID), TJ Cox (D-CA), John Katko (R-NY), Xochitl Torres Small (D-NM), Lee Zeldin (R-NY), Kendra Horn (D-OK), Steve Stivers (R-OH), Jared Golden (D-ME), and Jeff Fortenberry (R-NE).
Representative Sherrill is the Chairwoman of the Environment Subcommittee of the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee.
