Rep. Sherrill Invites CWA NJ State Director Franceline Ehret as Her State of the Union Guest

Washington, DC — Today, Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) announced Communications Workers of America (CWA) N.J. State Director Franceline Ehret as her guest to the 2024 State of the Union (SOTU) Address on Thursday, March 7. CWA represents about 40,000 state workers, 15,000 county and local government workers, and more than 70,000 New Jersey families.

“Unions built the American middle class and today, organized labor continues to make New Jersey a great place to live, work, and raise a family. As State Director, Fran is a powerhouse labor leader fighting for collective bargaining protections and stronger benefits for New Jersey families. As the granddaughter of a union worker, I am honored to have Fran as my guest at this year’s SOTU to hear from President Biden, the most pro-union president in U.S. history, and to highlight the pivotal role unions play in bolstering the economic potential for workers and their families,” said Rep. Sherrill.

“When unions are supported and are at the table when workforce decisions are made, New Jersey families and our entire economy flourish. Throughout my career working with unions across New Jersey, I’ve made it my mission to ensure workers are empowered and their rights protected. Rep. Sherrill has been a great advocate for organized labor throughout her tenure in office, fighting for working families and a stronger middle class. I am excited to join her this week at the State of the Union and bring the concerns of unions to the halls of Congress,” said Fran Ehret, CWA NJ Director.

Rep. Sherrill is a fierce advocate for organized labor as a member of the Labor Caucus and as a granddaughter of a UAW worker. As part of her Jersey STRONG Agenda, she introduced the Expanding Labor Representation in the Workforce System Act, bipartisan legislation that will expand the level of labor union participation on state and local workforce boards that allocate workforce development and job training funds. Rep. Sherrill is also a strong advocate for the landmark Protecting the Right to Organize Act, which will expand collective bargaining rights nationwide and crack down on labor violations.

This year as a member of the newly created House Select Committee on Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party, Rep. Sherrill introduced the American Jobs and Competition Plan – which aims to strengthen U.S. economic and national security and level the global playing-field for American workers and businesses.

Rep. Sherrill’s previous SOTU guests include two-time World Cup champion and Olympic gold medal winner Kelley O’Hara, local Ukrainian American leader and former Randolph Township Mayor Roman Hirniak, former Parsippany Mayor Michael Soriano, and founder of the Lost Angels Bereavement Group Donna Andelora.
