Rep. Sherrill Joins AARP New Jersey for Coronavirus Telephone Town Hall

Washington, DC — Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) joined more than 2,200 AARP New Jersey members on Wednesday for a coronavirus telephone town hall. Representative Sherrill answered questions related to federal legislation, food assistance, unemployment, economic impact payments, long term care facilities, and state and local funding.

“I’d like to thank AARP New Jersey for hosting me for the town hall,” said Representative Sherrill. “I enjoyed hearing from so many constituents and appreciate all of the ways our community is coming together to support each during the pandemic. This town hall was an opportunity to talk about the issues that are top of mind for so many of our residents right now, and share what I’m working on in Congress to support our older Americans and all of New Jersey.”

We applaud the work Congresswoman Sherrill is doing to pass bipartisan legislation that will benefit the most vulnerable New Jerseyans.”

Representative Sherrill highlighted several resources for residents on her website or available by contacting her casework team in the district:

Food Assistance: Including information on local food pantries and meal programs, frequently asked questions, and senior hours at local grocery stores.

Mental Health Resources: With high levels of anxiety, as well as the isolation that comes from social distancing, everyone will need to take care of themselves not only physically but mentally.

Economic Impact Payments FAQs: The IRS started distributing Economic Impact Payments (EIPs) in April. Representative Sherrill’s office will continue to provide updates to residents on EIP as we receive information from the IRS.

State Unemployment FAQs: Rep. Sherrill’s office is working with residents to help address issues with state unemployment claims. Website includes information on unemployment resources which may be helpful in addressing issues and questions.
