REP. WATSON COLEMAN KICKS OFF RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGN

NORTH BRUNSWICK – Joined by over 150 supporters from throughout the Twelfth Congressional District, Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman kicked off her re-election campaign for Congress on Saturday at the IBEW Local 456 hall in North Brunswick.  Rep. Watson Coleman was also joined by prominent leaders from throughout the state, including New Jersey Democratic State Committee Vice Chair and Political Director at the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters, Lizette Delgado, Executive Director of the New Jersey Working Families Alliance, Analilia Mejia, Elizabeth Meyer, the organizer behind the Women’s March on New Jersey, Mercer County Democratic Committee Chair and Assemblywoman-Select Verlina Reynolds-Jackson, Middlesex County Democratic Organization Chair Kevin McCabe, Somerset County Democratic Committee Chair Peg Schaffer and Acting Union County Democratic Committee Chair Colleen Mahr.

Rep. Watson Coleman, who was first elected to represent the 12th Congressional District in 2014, has been a tremendous advocate for common sense immigration policies that support people seeking freedom and security and continues to be a strong, progressive voice in the fight to secure pay equity and a high-quality public education for all.

“I consider every day I have the opportunity to serve the people of the 12th Congressional District to be a blessing,” said Rep. Watson Coleman.  “We have worked so hard and accomplished so much these past four years, but we have so much more work to do to make sure everyone in our country is provided the same opportunities.  Now, more than ever, we need to stand together against the hateful rhetoric and destructive policies that threaten to tear our communities apart.  I’m asking voters to re-elect me for another term so that I may stand on the frontlines in Washington and at home in the fight for fairness and equality for all.”

“Bonnie has always been a true leader in our Democratic Party,” said Delgado.  “She remains a staunch advocate for organized labor and is fearless in the fight to advance our progressive Democratic values.  I’m proud to stand with Bonnie in her campaign for re-election because I know how fiercely personal she takes her responsibilities to those she represents.”

“I consider Bonnie Watson Coleman to be a friend and a mentor,” said Mejia.  “She is always first in line when it comes time to stand against those who would try and discriminate against any individual and I know first-hand what a strong ally she is in our fight for a living wage and pay equity.  Bonnie Watson Coleman is a true progressive champion in the everyday struggle to effectuate positive change for working men and women in the 12th District, throughout New Jersey and across the country.”

“It was a true privilege to introduce the Congresswoman, surrounded by countless strong, powerful tenacious women to whom I look up to as mentors,” said Meyer.  “Rep. Watson Coleman has been a strong voice and a powerful champion in what is truly a critical point in history and I know she will continue to lead the charge in 2018, the Year of Women.”
