Rep. Donald Norcross Signs on to Medicare for All!

 Life-Saving Legislation Gains More Support Within New Jersey Delegation

Cherry Hill, N.J. – Today, after nearly a year of consistent pressure by Our Revolution NJ, Cooper River Indivisible, South Jersey Progressive Democrats and activists in the district, U.S. Representative Donald Norcross (NJ – 1) announced that he has signed on as a co-sponsor to H.R. 1976, the Medicare for All Act of 2021. Rep. Norcross’ ’s signature is the 4th from the New Jersey delegation, which also includes Rep. Frank Pallone (NJ-6), Rep. Bonnie Watson-Coleman (NJ-12), and Rep. Donald Payne (NJ-10).

“There is something wrong with our national priorities when in the richest country in the world we don’t have basic programs like guaranteed healthcare, affordable medicines, and paid sick leave that are common among developed nations,” said Anna-Marta Visky, Northeast Organizer for Our Revolution. “It’s great to see that our grassroots pressure has created support for Medicare for All among NJ Representatives. We applaud Rep. Norcross for signing on, but there is still more work to do.”

In 2020, over half a million New Jersey residents did not have any form of health insurance.  Even for the insured, many still struggle to pay their medical bills.

Medicare for All will end premiums and deductibles, lower prescription costs, and expand coverage to cover hearing, dental, and vision. It will eliminate the choice between putting food on the table or paying for insulin. We won’t have to think twice about calling an ambulance because we cannot afford the ambulance ride.

“The United States should join every major country in the world in creating a universal right to healthcare. No American should have to fear bankruptcy or remain in a terrible job just to see a doctor. I am glad Rep. Norcross added his voice today to those demanding common-sense change”, continued Visky.

The work will continue to get Reps. Albio Sires, Andy Kim, Bill Pascrell, and others to join their colleagues in support of Medicare for All.
