Reynolds-Jackson Statement on FY’20 & ‘21 Budget Projections
(TRENTON) – Assemblywoman Verlina Reynolds-Jackson (D-Mercer, Middlesex and Hunterdon), a member of the Assembly Budget Committee, has issued the following statement on the reports delivered by the State Treasurer and the Office of Legislative Services:
“I thank the Office of Legislative Services and State Treasurer Liz Muoio for delivering their revenue projections and budget reports for the 3-month extension of the current fiscal year and for fiscal year 2021.
“New Jersey has always been resilient in our recovery from any crisis we come up against. Each of us were very aware the current pandemic would have a tremendously negative impact on our economy and budget. As we begin to safely reopen the state, we will begin to get the state back on track responsibly.
“The hardest-hit areas, the families and businesses, in the state will need our support, especially in our minority communities whose unemployment levels are doubled compared to the statewide numbers. We must do as much as we can to get people back to work and small businesses up and running again. As a state and in our municipalities, the last thing we want is to have the taxpayers carry the burden of balancing state or local budgets.
“These conversations on the budget have just begun. We will have to stay fluid as we navigate the state out of the current health crisis.”
