Rice Commends All Who Supported the New Voting Rights Law

Trenton – Senator Ronald L. Rice issued the following statement commending all those involved in supporting and passing the new law that expanded voting rights to anyone on probation or parole:

“I would like to thank the Legislative Black and Latino Caucuses for pushing to get the expanded voting rights bill passed and signed into law. I would also like to thank Senate President Steve Sweeney and Assembly Speaker Coughlin and the leadership in both houses for standing with us and supporting our efforts in making this new law a reality. We certainly could not have had the public support without our civil rights and faith-based leaders, who we collaborated with from the very beginning.

“In 2019, we commemorated the 400th year since 1619, the year the first slaves arrived in Jamestown, Virginia. As a people, road has been and difficult to get us to where we are today. Through grassroots movements, we have been able to overcome a lot throughout our history. However, we must continue to push this social justice movement in order to advance the interests of the Black community as well as all New Jersey residents.”
