Rooney releases statement on passing of State Senator McNamara
Assemblyman Kevin J. Rooney (R-Bergen) issued the following statement on the passing of former State Senator Henry McNamara:
“I am truly saddened to learn of the passing of former Senator Henry McNamara. Hank dedicated his life to the people of New Jersey. First serving in the Army then State National Guard, he then went on to serve as the Mayor of Wyckoff, on the Bergen County Board of Chosen Freeholders, and then finally as the Senator representing District 40. As the chair of the Environment Committee, he was responsible for introducing the Garden State Preservation Trust Fund to provide stable funding for open space, farmland, parks, and historic preservation. He also championed laws regarding underground tank storage and toxic waste clean up. Senator McNamara has acted as a mentor for me in my public service, but has also been a close friend to my family and myself. My deepest condolences go out to his wife Joan and family. He will be greatly missed, but he has made a lasting impact. I hope to continue to honor Senator McNamara’s memory and continue his legacy in my service to New Jersey.”
