Roselle Democrats announce Primary ticket of Villeda and Staten, along with full County Committee slate

ROSELLE, NJ — Assemblyman Jamel Holley (D-Roselle) and Roselle Councilman at-Large and Democratic Municipal Chairman Rev. Reginald Atkins are announcing the Roselle Democratic Committee’s candidates in the upcoming June primary election, which include Board of Education trustee Richard Villeda for 1st Ward Council and Councilwoman Andrea Staten for 3rd Ward Council. The Roselle Democratic Committee will also field a full slate of County Committee candidates who will be running in the primary on June 6.

“The Roselle Borough Council is leading the way in our community, making solid progress on everything from stabilizing property taxes to improving public safety to making the Roselle Mind and Body complex a reality,” said Assemblyman Holley. “I am proud to support Richard Villeda and Andrea Staten for Council because I know they have our community’s best interests at heart and they will work with the rest of the council to keep moving Roselle forward.”

Re-elected to the Board of Education last year, Richard Villeda would become the first Hispanic member of the Roselle Borough Council if elected. He works as a supervisor at a major industrial company and has experience managing budgets and employees that will be an asset on the Council. Richard has been a Roselle resident for nearly 15 years.

“Richard Villeda and Andrea Staten both share our vision for a safe, affordable and active Roselle community and I am excited to work with them towards those goals,” said Councilman Atkins. “Our borough needs more elected officials who will put the residents’ needs first and listen to what the community is telling us and I know that both Richard and Andrea can be counted on to do that.”

Councilwoman Andrea “Sunshine” Staten was appointed to the Borough Council in 2014 following the tragic death of former Councilman Randy Sandifer and was elected to a full term later that year. On the Council she has been an advocate for youth recreation programs and public park improvements, among many other priorities. She works in the mortgage banking industry and has lived in Roselle for over 20 years.
