Ruiz Applauds Use of Coronavirus Relief Funds for Child Care

TRENTON – In a statement, the Chair of the Senate Education Committee, Senator M. Teresa Ruiz, applauded the Governor’s announcement today to dedicate $250 million in funding from the federal Coronavirus Relief Fund to support the child care needs of working families:

“I applaud the efforts of the administration in addressing a policy space where I have been vocal for a long time. These are the immediate investments we need to make in our working families if we are going to build the bridges necessary to return to a new normal, and it doesn’t stop here.

“I introduced legislation yesterday to address the child care needs of our teachers and staff as schools begin to reopen because just as we supported the children of essential workers when schools shut down in the beginning of the crisis, we need to support the new frontline workers at every step in this process. I look forward to working with the administration further as we explore more programs and policy decisions that improve the quality of life of all New Jersey residents.”
