RUTHERFORD MAYORAL CANDIDATE STEPHANIE MCGOWAN
CONDEMNS OPPONENT’S PAY-FOR-VOTES SCHEME

Nunziato’s Free Lunch for Voter Registration Breaks Law, McGowan Says.
RUTHERFORD, NJ (May 10, 2019) –Rutherford Mayoral candidate Stephanie McGowan has
released the following statement in response to Frank Nunziato’s pay-for-vote scheme:

“We are very disturbed and concerned about Frank Nunziato’s disregard for federal law in
offering a free lunch in exchange for a completed voter registration form at his upcoming
campaign event. As anyone who has ever actually worked to register voters and engage citizens
in exercising their Democratic right to vote, federal law prohibits any type of compensation or
transaction in exchange for a voter registration. The law is crystal clear to the fine point of
prohibiting a bowl of candy on a table with voter registration forms. The fact that Mr. Nunziato
is brazenly advertising this illegal activity shows us that whether he is unaware of this very clear
and well-known law, or is choosing to violate it, he is unfit to serve the people of Rutherford as
their mayor.

Unfortunately, as outrageous as this behavior is, it is unsurprisingly just more of the same from
Mr. Nunziato. He has randomly switched back and forth between the Democratic and
Republican parties to suit his political opportunism—at a time when the ideological differences
between the parties could not have more serious consequences for all of our lives–and he
infamously tried to get our current mayor appointed to a $70,000 tax-payer funded salary as our
Borough administrator. His latest illegal misadventure is just another example of his complete
lack of ethics, morals, integrity and character and the anthesis of his slogan Rutherford First.

We believe Rutherford deserves leaders who will represent the best interests of the community
and its citizens.  Mr. Nunziato cannot be trusted to represent anyone or anything other than the
best interests of himself, and we believe voters will tell him that at the polls June 4 th . We already
have an unethical, transactional opportunist in the White House. We are confident that
Rutherford’s hard-working, law-abiding voters won’t tolerate another one here at home.”

The Democratic primary is June 4th .
