Salerno Goes on the Attack in Tight NJ-02 Race

“Flip Flop” Ad Highlights Van Drew’s Dramatic Shift

Cape May, New Jersey – October 10, 2024 –  The campaign of Congressional hopeful Joe Salerno fired a major salvo in the battle for New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District seat. Entitled “Flip Flop,” the ad is a humorous but scathing take on the dramatic policy reversals Jeff Van Drew has taken since switching to the Republican party in 2019. Previewing on social media, the ad highlights Van Drew’s changing positions on women’s reproductive rights, veterans benefits, border security, and other major issues.

Salerno is an engineer and entrepreneur who is taking on an incumbent with over 20 years as a career politician. Van Drew started as a moderate Democrat, but switched parties shortly after his election to Congress and became a devoted MAGA Republican. A poll by the Salerno campaign showed Van Drew’s embrace of the extreme right wing has made him vulnerable among independent and undecided voters. Unions, teachers and women’s healthcare advocates have all endorsed Salerno. Van Drew has delayed a debate with Salerno originally scheduled for early October, and recently demanded the removal of the debate’s audience. With less than a month until election day, this close South Jersey race will come down to the wire.
