Sarlo Schedules Public Hearings on Budget

TRENTON – Senator Paul Sarlo, the chairman of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, announced the scheduling of two public hearings on Governor Phil Murphy’s budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2023.

“These hearings will give the public the opportunity to express their views on how the state budget can address their needs and advances their priorities,” said Senator Sarlo. “The public’s input is important. We want to put in place a spending plan that makes their lives more affordable, ensures the efficient use of resources and enables the effective delivery of vital services. We want a budget that works for the people of New Jersey.”

The first public hearing to start the Senate’s work on the state spending plan will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 29. The second public session is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 21.

The hearings will be conducted remotely with testimony delivered by telephone and video. They will be accessible via the Legislature’s home page at

The second hearing for the public will be held after revenue and economic updates are provided by the Treasurer and OLS, giving the public more up-to-date information to comment on at a time of economic uncertainty, Senator Sarlo said.

Conducting the meetings through Zoom will be more inclusive, Senator Sarlo said, giving more people the opportunity to participate.
