Schaer on FY2020 Spending Plan

(TRENTON) – Assemblyman Gary Schaer (D-Bergen, Passaic) issued the following statement regarding the FY2020 budget:

“This past year we witnessed the impact that a federal government shutdown had on families in New Jersey and across our nation. Workers were furloughed, courts were closed, and necessary government services were halted. Without a budget, our state could find itself facing those same challenges.

“As I have stated, I would support a Millionaires’ Tax if it were posted for a vote.  However at this time, the Millionaires’ Tax does not have the support of either Legislative house and in light of our current circumstances, I am willing to support a State budget which does not include the Millionaires’ Tax. I look forward to working with Speaker Coughlin to craft a budget that funds our values and protects our working families. Supporting something that will never pass is a pyrrhic victory, but doing so at the expense of New Jersey families is no victory at all.”
